Calathea Lutea is a fast growing sub tropical/exotic plant with round elongated leaves with pale silvery grey underside. The cigar plant gets its name from its brownish flower bracts that resemble cigards and has nice colouration in its stems. They grow to 3 meters tall and tolerate full morning sun but need protection from afternoon sun. Calathea Lutea make for an ideal green screen from your neighbours, feature plant in the garden or potted plant. The Cigar Plant is often planted with other tropical plants including Palms, Cordylines, Crotons, Philodendrons, Heliconias and Gingers.
